Server Migration, Flash Games and Zombies

In a few hours time I will begin the process of migrating the hosting plan over to a Linux based solution rather than a windows based solution which should hopefully see the website response improve as well as allow better functionality amongst a whole host of other little bits and pieces. I’m hoping that it won’t take long but it could mean that the website is down for a day or two whilst this process is carried out.

Incidentally I managed to find out how to record Flash games using Fraps. Apparently if I have an Aero theme on my computer Fraps is able to record the desktop and then with editing software I can extract only the area of the screen that I want. This mean it’ll now be possible for me to record Flash games and do video reviews of these. This will mean there will be less written reviews but more reviews in general.

Finally, with the new month a new theme has to be chosen so for this month we’ll be focusing on one of my favourite subjects. Zombies. Yes, Nerd Of Gamers will be focusing on, but not exclusively creating content for, the genre of zombies. As part of this theme I’ll be examing how to change the WordPress theme to a more ghastly appearance.

Here’s to the future.

Changing the server

After much messing around with the configuration of WordPress I’ve finally come to the conculsion that the Windows serving solution is a pile of **** and in response I’ll be migrating over to a Linux host over the next couple of days. During this time the server may be unavailable when the migration takes place but it’ll be up and running soon enough.

In other news at the start of April I’ll be changing the theme to Zombies, this time I’ll try playing around with the theme and see if I can’t give it a bit more of a living dead feeling. At the same time I’ll also be purchasing a domain and getting ready to launch a new site this time dedicated to hosting my artwork, hopefully it’ll give me as much fun as this website and creating the videos has.

Site Changes

In an attempt to learn more about the inner workings of server side code and WordPress in general I have made a few changes to the website. Suffice to say it works but no doubt I’ll change it all when I understand everything better.

One important change is that I’ve added support to host flash games on my site, this will be very important for the future of this website as I’ll be reviewing games, and where possible, posting them here for people to play. These games will eventually be hand-selected for their quality and diversity rather than relying on the Mochi feed as it does now.
